Kitchen costs · Materials & fittings

Two kitchens can look alike. Read what sits behind the price.

A kitchen quote is a combination of cabinet quantities, specifications and the work needed in your apartment. Start with the same layout and appliance list so your comparison describes the same kitchen.

01

Fix the layout and measurement basis

Identify base cabinets, wall cabinets, tall units and any lofts or island separately. Ask whether a quantity measures cabinet frontage, countertop area, run length or a fixed item. The same number with a different unit is not a meaningful price comparison.

Ask or check

Request a dimensioned drawing and a quantity breakdown that agree with the written quotation.

What you leave with: An item list with its measurement basis, quantity and specification.

02

Read the cabinet and shutter specification

Separate the cabinet body from the visible shutter finish. Record the proposed board or other substrate, thickness, finish and edge treatment, together with the applicable product details. Laminate, veneer and painted or coated surfaces describe different constructions; the name alone does not define the complete cabinet.

Ask or check

Use a product or sample reference and the specified construction rather than a general label such as luxury.

What you leave with: A cabinet specification that can be checked before ordering and at installation.

03

Count the fittings you will use

Drawers, hinges, lift systems, corner mechanisms and organisers can change the quote substantially. Compare the make, model, count and capacity of the proposed fittings. Soft-close describes a function; it does not identify the product or mean that every fitting in a kitchen has it.

Ask or check

Confirm which accessories are included, which are optional and who provides the warranty.

What you leave with: An agreed fitting schedule instead of an unspecified hardware allowance.

04

Close the gaps around the cabinets

Record countertop material and dimensions, cut-outs, edges and installation. Identify the sink, tap, hob, chimney and other appliances individually. Check removal, wall preparation, plumbing, electrical changes and debris handling where required; do not assume a cabinet package covers these works.

Ask or check

Compare the total before GST, GST and the payable amount on the same basis.

What you leave with: A kitchen quote that explains supplied items, site work, exclusions and taxes.

Put the decisions side by side.

Similar-looking fronts

Can conceal different cabinet construction, edges and fittings.

A comparable quote

Names the construction, dimensions, fittings and full installation scope.

A low cabinet rate does not establish a low complete-kitchen price. Check the missing work before deciding.
